BRING IN YOUR HORTICULTURE

Every meeting there is an opportunity to share your horitculture!

• Bring a single stem of anything in your yard.

• If it's blooming –  there should be no foliage.

• It should be displayed in a single stem vase, jar, or whatever appropriately sized container you have.

• Stem should stand upright and be centered in the opening of the vessel (use saran wrap or tape to stabilize the stem).

DESIGN CHALLENGES

There is a floral design theme listed for each monthly meeting. We encourage our members to take this opportunity to practice their skills with floral arrangements and design. Even though designs will be judged, this is intended to be a learning experience. This is done casually and in the spirit of fun! This helps us all to develop a better understanding of the Nation Garden Club’s flower show requirements used for judging a standard flower show. This year there is something new we're calling "Up Your Game." This challenge is offered to learn more about floral DESIGN vs. Floral arranging. It will probably require some forethought and some creativity (think "outside the box").

UP YOUR GAME:

Example from September: Think about using various materials (natural or otherwise) to create a unique design representing a person (famous or not). WHAT? You ask..... Here's a couple thoughts on this "up your game"....Perhaps a favorite book/author (Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer) use the book as a base for the design, in the design you might include a miniature white picket fence, and a miniature paint brush and paint can .... or even use the paint can as the vessel for the design. Perhaps George Washington.... use one-dollar bills rolled up and taped around the outside of the vessel for your design.
