As the 2025-2026 garden club season came to a close, members gathered on May 13th, 2026 for a memorable final meeting hosted by one of their own, Patti Dutko. Her warm hospitality and stunning home set the perfect scene for an afternoon filled with good food, lively conversation, and the shared joy of gardening. This event not only marked the end of a fruitful season but also strengthened the bonds among members as they looked forward to future activities.

A Warm Welcome at Patti Dutko’s Home
Patti Dutko graciously opened her home to host the garden club’s last meeting of the season. Her garden, a vibrant display of carefully tended plants and flowers, offered members a peaceful retreat. Her view of the Edisto River added a calming backdrop filled the afternoon with relaxation and connection.
Members arrived carrying a variety of homemade dishes, creating a potluck feast that reflected the diverse tastes and culinary skills within the group. This sharing of food fostered a sense of community and celebration, as everyone enjoyed sampling different recipes while catching up with friends.

Plant Swap
One of the highlights of the event was the plant swap organized by Jess Charters. This activity allowed members to exchange plants and seedlings, encouraging the spread of unique and cherished varieties throughout the club.

Recognizing Achievements and Looking Ahead
Before breaking bread, an award was presented to our member who attended the most SPGC events – Jess Charters!
St. Paul's Garden Club also received acheivements through the Garden Club of South Carolina. 1st place (for large club) Civic Achievement Award given for the most distinguished civic improvement project. 2nd place for Club Year Book Award.
Building Community Through Gardening
This final meeting highlighted how gardening brings people together beyond just plants and flowers. The shared experiences, knowledge exchange, and mutual support create a strong community. Patti’s home, with its inviting atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, was the perfect place to celebrate these connections.
The event reminded everyone that gardening is not just a hobby but a way to build friendships, learn continuously, and enjoy nature’s beauty. The club’s activities, from meetings to trips and plant swaps, provide meaningful ways to engage with this passion throughout the year.
Preparing for the Next Season
As members look forward to the new season starting in September, the energy and excitement from this closing event will carry them forward. Renewing memberships ensures that everyone stays part of the community and ready to participate in future events.
The club’s calendar will include educational workshops, garden tours, and social gatherings designed to inspire and support members. The shared commitment to learning and growing together promises another rewarding year ahead.
