Recently, the St. Pauls Garden Club had the pleasure of hosting Kelly from Pluff Mudd Farm for an engaging and informative presentation on growing indigo. The event was not only educational but also filled with inspiration and hands-on activities that left everyone excited about the world of natural dyes.

Discovering Indigo

Kelly shared her journey of how she became passionate about growing indigo on her farm. She explained the historical significance of indigo and its resurgence in modern textile arts. Her enthusiasm was contagious as she detailed the steps involved in cultivating this vibrant plant, from planting to harvesting.

The Art of Processing and Dyeing

In addition to growing indigo, Kelly demonstrated the process of extracting dye from the plant and how to prepare it for use. She provided insights into the intricacies of dyeing techniques and the beautiful shades of blue that can be achieved.

Hands-On Dyeing Experience

After the informative presentation, the members of the St. Pauls Garden Club had the opportunity to get hands-on with indigo dyeing. Under Kelly's guidance, they dyed tea towels using the indigo dye she prepared. The excitement in the room was palpable as everyone watched their plain towels transform into beautiful shades of blue.

The event was a resounding success, leaving the St. Pauls Garden Club members inspired to explore the world of natural dyes and textiles. Kelly's passion for her craft and her farm's sustainable practices resonated with everyone present. We look forward to future collaborations with Pluff Mudd Farm and more opportunities to learn from such a talented artisan!
